Christmas Songs And Thoughts
Christmas carols are already in the air and the anticipation for the holidays has begun. Time to think of gifts before the mob crowds the malls. Come Christmas, let kind thoughts flow like rivers from you, Christmas songs bring you cheer, and warm greetings and wishes be freely given, as you go along the way.
Each Man to His Song
The visions of a crackling fire and stockings hanging from the hearth, families gathering to sing along to their favorite Christmas songs, the smells of delicious baking and cooking are all beloved memories especially when the kids are grown and have flown the coop.
Each memory flows dreamily, gentle and poignant at times. Sometimes with a feeling of regret and loss and lonely yearnings echoed in these lines sung from “You’re All I Want for Christmas” by Bing Crosby:
“You’re all I want for Christmas
All I want my whole life through
Each day is just like Christmas
Anytime that I’m with you .”
As generations change, the thoughts change too. Note this Christmas song – “All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan” by Kenny Chesney:
“All I want for Christmas is a real good tan
Take me to the Islands put my feet in the sand
Rockin’ to and fro to the rhythm of the ocean
Singing Silent Night with the palm trees blowing”
Classical Christmas Music
James Lord Pierpont (April 25, 1822 – August 5, 1893) was a New England born songwriter, arranger, organist, and composer, best known for writing and composing “Jingle Bells” in 1857, originally entitled “The One Horse Open Sleigh”. Other classic songs are the First Nöel, Adeste Fideles (O Come, All Ye Faithful), Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth – are some samples of the best loved Christmas songs.
New Christmas songs will come out of the woodwork but the classics will endure – like Christmas itself. Now there’s one special one that we can’t overlook: Elvis himself. Elvis’ Christmas Album is the fourth studio album and first Christmas album by Elvis Presley on RCA Victor, LOC 1035, a deluxe limited edition, released in October 1957, and recorded at Radio Recorders in Hollywood.
